Since 1992, RSVP has built veterinary staffing around people, partnership, and picking up the phone.
Founded in Texas
License verification in good standing
Veterinary support staff
Relationship-led service
Most of the new entrants in veterinary staffing decided the answer was a better app. Faster matching, lower friction, more providers in the network. The platform as the product.
RSVP went the other way. We bet that the part of relief staffing that actually matters is the part a platform cannot do. The 7am call when a doctor has cancelled. The conversation with a practice manager who wants someone with Fear Free certification, not just someone who is licensed. The follow-up after a difficult shift. The relationship that gets built over the third or fourth or fortieth booking.
A platform can match supply to demand. A person can match a provider to a clinic. Those are not the same skill.
So we built RSVP around managers, not algorithms. Clinics and providers get named, personal contacts. They text. They know your dog’s name. They handle the awkward conversations on both sides. The app exists to support the manager, not replace them.
It is a deliberate way to work. It is also the way that holds up over decades. The relationships we built in 1992 are still on the phone with us today.
Three beliefs that shape how we hire, match, and support people.
The category has decided the goal is fewer exceptions: smoother matching, more reliable supply, fewer last-minute cancellations. We agree with the goal and disagree with the implication, which is that you can engineer the human moments out of the work. You cannot. Providers get sick, clinics have crises, family emergencies happen. The staffing companies that are useful are the ones that are good at the moments when the system breaks down, and we invest in that on purpose.
RSVP managers are uniquely qualified veterinary staffing experts. Most platforms treat managers as overhead: a cost to reduce, automate, or eventually replace. We treat the Area Staffing Manager as the actual thing the customer is paying for. Technology supports the manager; the manager does the work. That shapes how we hire and pay managers, structure their portfolios, and measure success. The result is managers who stay for years and customers who stay for decades.
The marketing convention in this category is to claim universal capability. We cover every state. We can fill any shift. We never miss. None of that is true for anyone, including us. We would rather tell a clinic we can’t cover a same-day request in their geography than promise something we can’t deliver, and rather tell a provider a particular tier isn’t the right fit than sign them up for the wrong thing. Saying no costs less than being remembered as the company that overpromised.

The moments that shaped how RSVP works today.
A relief veterinary staffing operation built around relationships that already existed in the local DVM community. The model from day one is a person on the phone, not a posting on a board.
Providers and clinics refer colleagues who value the same personal approach. RSVP keeps the relationship-led model intact as it serves more veterinary communities.
App-first entrants show up with venture funding and a matching algorithm as the product. RSVP makes the deliberate decision not to follow, and builds technology to support our managers rather than replace them.
Personal scheduling, one-touch invoicing, real-time payment, and a clinical reference library. The app exists to make relief work easier, not to replace the manager relationship that is still the core of the company.
Patterson, the largest veterinary distributor in North America, acquires RSVP. The operating model and team stay in place, and Patterson provides infrastructure, financial stability, and access to a broader veterinary network. RSVP continues under its own brand with its own management team, the same way it has since 1992.
Veterinarians, W-2 veterinary technicians, clinics, shelters, and government partners are supported by the same belief: technology helps, but our people do the work.
